10g Tunis roving, Serafina

You will need:

Size 3 or 4 DPN (either size is suitable)

Darning Needle

Scissors

With orange yarn…

CO 10 stiches; leave about 10-12” tail to hang down through bottom of piece

Divide on 3 needles as 4, 3, 3

Join in the round, being careful not to twist.

*You can place a stitch marker between stitches 1 & 2 but this is a small work and your cast on tail will mark needle 1.

Rounds 1 & 2:  K to end

Round 3:  (kfb) every stitch to finish round with 20 stitches

Round 4:  K

Round 5:  (k1, KFB) to finish with 30 stitches

Round 6:  K

Round 7:  (k2, KFB) to finish with 40 stitches

Round 8:  K

Round 9:  (k3, KFB) to finish with 50 stitches

Round 10:  *(k4, p1) *repeat until end of round

Round 11:  *(k4, PFB) *repeat until end of round to finish with 60 stitches

Round 12 – 28:  *(k4, p2) *repeat until end of round

Round 29:  *(k4, p2tog) *repeat until end of round finishing with 50 stitches

Round 30:  *(k4, p1) *repeat until end of round

Round 31: *(k3, k2tog) *repeat until end of round finishing with 40 stitches

Round 32: K to end of round

Round 33:  *(k2, k2tog) *repeat until end of round finishing with 30 stitches

Round 34: K to end of round

Round 35: *(k1, k2tog) *repeat until end of round finishing with 20 stitches

Round 36: K to end of round

Using darning needle, thread the CAST ON TAIL through each of the CO stitches and gently pull to close.

Using half of the roving, gently stuff the pumpkin.

Round 37: *(K2tog) *repeat to end of round finishing with 10 stitches

Rearrange your stitches so that Needle 1 has 4 stitches, Needle 2 has 2 stitches, and Needle 3 has 4 stitches

Round 38:  *(k2tog) to end of round finishing with 5 stitches

Now put ALL STITCHES ON ONE NEEDLE. And change from orange yarn to green yarn with a simple square knot to join.

Continue with i-cord in green, about 1.5 inches.

Cast Off i-cord and using darning needle, pull tail through body of pumpkin.

You can leave your pumpkin as is OR…

Using the CO tail and a darning needle, carefully pull the orange CO tail yarn through points at the top and bottom of the pumpkin to sculpt the shape…make it a squattier pumpkin…might it uneven and more natural in shape…make it totally Tim Burton.

This is a very forgiving pattern with endless options for size by changing yarn weight, needle size, and number of ribbing rounds.

***The Providence Farm Pumpkin Knit Kit will produce 2 PUMPKINS about the size of those cute expensive gourds you buy for Thanksgiving table décor.
